Brown Recluse Spiders in Anaheim

Brown recluse spiders are the most common recluse species in the United States. They’re also nicknamed the “violin” or “fiddleback” spider thanks to the unique pattern on their dorsum. Though these spiders are often found in Anaheim, they’re fairly rare outside of their native habitat. Many people assume that brown recluses are more common than they actually are, largely because they’re widely over-reported across the country.

Brown Recluse Spider Habitat

These spiders live up to their name with their reclusive habits. Outdoors, brown recluse spiders usually look for sheltered cracks or crevices in places like loose bark from dead trees. These spiders tend to squeeze into very small and cluttered spaces, which is why they’re usually found in trash cans or storage boxes. Brown recluses also typically prefer rough surfaces like wood and cardboard as opposed to smooth objects like ceramic and metal.

Brown Recluse Spider Behaviors, Threats, or Dangers

Brown recluses are venomous, and their bites can cause necrotic skin damage. Thankfully, though, these spiders are very shy and rarely bite unless they sense danger. Since these spiders like to hide inside of shoes, piles of clothing, or storage boxes, most people are bitten while rummaging through their belongings. While brown recluse spider bites are rare, they can cause serious wounds that need immediate medical attention.
